A Question of Bluetooth

Hi guys,

First off just wanted to say I really appreciate what you’re doing here, with the whole low-cost robotics and all. With that out of the way, I was wondering if I could get some details about the bluetooth module that’ll be arriving with my Hexy?

It’s my intention to use Hexy for my final year project, creating an android app to control him, and working in some other nifty things if time allows it, so I’m trying to gather as much info as I can about him before he arrives so I can dive into it asap.

So yeah, any information regarding the bluetooth module would be greatly appreciated, as it looks like there are a few different ones out there, and connecting to each of them is a little different. Naturally if I’m wrong on that please correct me, egg on my face is the last thing I need.

We’re using the JY-MCU Bluetooth module with Linvor1.5 firmware. The connection on the arudino side couldn’t be easier. There’s power, ground, TX and RX pin. These plug into the corresponding pins on the servotor32 (which has been layed out to make this easier):

On the computer side, you connect to it as you would any bleutooth device. The security pin is 0000. You can then use it as a serial port at 115200 buad rate.

Hi Joseph,

Just to clarify something - I’m looking at the Servotor32 PDF on GitHub, and that photo you posted. It looks like the Bluetooth module plugs into 1/3/5/7 on JP17, which correspond to PC7/PC6/PB6/PB4 respectively. Then I’m looking at the Servotor32_Default.ino (v2.0) and you’re getting BlueTooth input from a Serial1.read(). Where is it defined what pins a Serial1.read() is taken from please? I see the TX and Rx pins on the schematic, but the BlueTooth module does not seem to connect to either of those two.

I’m looking to add a Pololu Wixel to the board, and I’m hoping I can hook up the Wixel Tx pin to whatever the Servotor32 is using for BlueTooth Rx, and vice versa?

The pins plug directly into the TX/RX pins. You can see the pinout on the underside of the board.
