The Hexy power info states that if using rechargeable batteries, one should use 5 batteries. However, the recommended batteries only come in packs of 4, and are a bit pricey. Is there a major difference between using 5 and 4 batteries?
Rechargeable batteries generally provide 1.2V. So running 4 would only give you 4.8V to run everything off of, whereas the 5 batteries would put it at 6V. As the batteries get drained their voltage dips so only using 4 would give you basically no margin.
Thanks. I’ve just ordered two packs of batteries.
I agree with what was said above. I bought 3 4-packs of NimH’s from radio shack. This way I always have a fully charged set. The biggest problem is that most chargers will only charge in pairs so the “extra” are needed to rotate the charge cycle for the fifth battery. If you can find a charger that does them singly it would be better.

I have a charger that charges 4 batteries individually.
