Bluetooth module not powering without USB

Hi,
I can’t get the bluetooth module to power on unless I’m connected via USB. I’ve tried 4xNIMH AA, 5xNIMH AA and even a 9-volt into the logic connector and 5xNIMH AA into the servo connector.

It works fine via USB - I can connect from a couple different machines. Has anyone else seen this issue? Is my Servotor wonky, or have I missed something obvious?

Just curious, have you tried plugging in the ultrasonic sensor before this?

Hi,
Yep! I got the ultrasonic sensor working. Well, I got it working when USB connected - not sure if it powers on when not USB tethered (is there an indicator light - I didn’t see one). I thought that might be the culprit, so I disconnected it when trying to get the bluetooth powered.

Thanks!

Did you ever have to reverse the direction of how you plugged in the ultrasonic?

Yes! The first time I plugged it in, it must have been backwards as it wasn’t functioning. The bluetooth adapter wasn’t plugged in at the time, but I did reverse it at least once. USB powered, no servo or logic power. Did I burn something out?

Yup, thought so. Its quite possible the 5v regulator got burned out. You’re not the first person to have this happen, we’re currently swapping out all the regulators in the next batch of boards to one with over-current protection for this reason.

Curses! Is the Servotor still backordered by 4-6 weeks? I don’t mind buying another @35 USD, but the wait’ll kill me

Thanks for the quick responses, sir. I can muck about with another kit while I wait if necessary. Gotta say, the Hexy is awesome.

Jury-rigged a clean 5V power supply for the USB port from a mobile charger, so I’m untethered
