I just finished asembling hexy but from what i have seen it needs 2 setts of batteries.I found where to put the first but where do i put the other?
It only needs one set. The 4 cell is for alkaline batteries (1.5 volts/cell) and the 5 cell is for rechargeables (1.2 volts/cell). It wants as close to 6 volts as you can get.
Then why is there 2 jacks marked servo and logic?
The servo plug is the main power supply to the servos. This is the power supply that all power for the servos is drawn from. It can also power the logic, if it is the only power supply available.
The logic power supply is there as a backup, in the event that the servo power supply dips too low and the usb isn’t plugged in. This can especially be the case during high-power maneuvers. Otherwise, the board might reset. This isn’t a concern when doing small movements, or while using usb, but it can be the case say when roaming autonomously with bluetooth.
so how do i put power to both?i think it would involve puting the second pack on
I would just let it sit on top. You can also use a 9v battery, the logic supply shouldn’t draw too much power, something in the dozen(s) of milliamps range
I used double-sided tape to affix the 4-battery pack to the 5-pack and then used the longer screws instead of the medium ones to fit them onto the battery tray on the bottom of the Hexy.
I’m not home at the moment but will post some pics in the next few days.
As promised, here’s a picture illustrating the battery configuration I’m using at the moment. The 4-pack powers the logic while the 5-pack powers the servos.
That’s pretty clever stuff there LuisSala, I’ll have to remember that trick for trade shows when I need the extra runtime

Over the weekend I visited my local neighborhood spy shop (Radio Shack) and applied to same trick but with a twist. I re-wired two 5-packs in parallel to double the current.
I doubt power will be an issue going forward, but some of the servos are driving me nuts. I really could use some extra gears and a few spares!
