Hexy Storage Conditions

My Hexy is due to arrive on my doorstep today or tomorrow. Both days are forecast to be well below freezing (especially today). I will not be home to receive my package, but have given explicit instructions to leave packages without a signature when they’ll fit in a secure location.

I’m concerned about Hexy sitting outside in this extreme cold. Will I need to worry about anything breaking due to the cold?

The servos are rated for use down to 0 degrees Celsuis, so I figure they should probably survive significantly colder temperatures during storage. Is this a correct assumption?

Obviously, before I begin building Hexy, I should allow him to warm up to room temperature to ensure that condensation doesn’t form and cause damage to the electronics or servos, which I will do. I just want to make sure I don’t need to call my neighbour and have him take the package indoors to keep it warm.

We haven’t exactly cold-tested it, but I don’t imagine anything in there wouldn’t thaw out well. The only thing I’d be concerned about is, as you said, condensation. The electronics are in a seperate sealed anti-static bag, and the servos are pretty well sealed, but we didn’t put any desiccant (those little bags of pellets that keep things dry) in it.

Once its warmed up and dried off everything should be fine, though.

Thanks for the reassurance. Now I will stop worrying and just be content to be pleasantly surprised upon my return home to find a happy little disassembled robot waiting for me. :slight_smile:
