Has anyone tried using lithium AA cells?
For example, Energizer claims their Ultimate Lithium AA cells are rated at 3A (continuous) maximum discharge rate. On the other hand, they only show the discharge curve for 1A. Here’s the datasheet: data.energizer.com/PDFs/l91.pdf
That wouldn’t work. Probably just a bit better than alkaline batteries. Hexy takes about 1A just standing still. When you start doing any movements the current easily reaches 3A. So there is no advantage against NiMH batteries.
Those look like they’d work, but they’re also single-use only, so they’d get expensive really fast…
Yeah. Those are expensive batteries.
I’m going to try LiPo regulated by a LM2596-based buck converter. Again, peak current might be a problem, but properly designed it’s supposed to supply 3A.
Try using a LM2678 based on instead. 5A vs 3A, so it should cover peak current. I have some, but I still need to give them a proper testing (I think I need to build a little treadmill and take it for a walk haha)
