Printed hexy

I’ve almost got all the leg sets printed, I have one more to go. I have printed the top of the body, but none of the rest of the body pieces, but so far it looks pretty good.

It will require some minor sanding to get the tabs to go into the slots but nothing major.

Here’s a link to the webcam on my printer if anyone wants to watch it print. During the day it will usually print one plate, then it has to wait for me to get home before I can print more

MendelMax?
Working on an upgrade to mine (that was not up and running that long due to some free faulty printed parts). Added the linear rail* and now putting it all back together. Excited to be able to print stuff again.

Hi,

I am pretty new to 3D printing and have a replicator. Can you detail the steps to print the parts? github.com/ArcBotics/Hexy there are so many parts, which files should I use? Appreciate the help.

What you need to do is download all the files, then go through the folders and any file that ends in STL is something needed to print for the Hexy.

You will need to run the parts through netfab to clean them up before you print them, but after that they should be all set to go.

Yup, but I used Makerslide instead, and it’s working awesome. I just put some etched glass on the bed as a test and that’s working well so it’s time to change to the Kapton heater and a glass bed with the Makerslide.

Nice!.. I will have to think of some more intelligent questions to ask you as it sounds like you have more knowledge and experience than I do. Not a ton of printer making help in my town, so been going at it mostly solo.

Yeah, I’ve been playing with them off and on for about 2 years, but just got serious the past year. I have a Prusa and a mendelmax and I’m getting ready to build an ordbot, and a laser cutter next. I already have a CNC and other stuff in my shop so I’ll pretty much be set when I finish the laser cutter.

You can check out my website and some of the posts I’ve made there including recent experiments with etched glass for the bed. If you have other questions don’t hesitate to contact me off line at ncbob.squarespace.com

Huge thanks! Got some thin M5 nuts in the mail so I can start putting my steppers on. Might have to ping you after that. I also upgraded to 10mm rods and the kickstarter extruder (qu-bd.com). I am learning a ton, but, there are days where I am not sure I wanted another hobby, I thought I was just going to build a tool.

Did you get this finished at all? I’d love to see a printed hexy.

It’s printed, but I’m waiting for more servos. I ordered 36 more and two different controller boards for them. The boards should be here Friday, servos next week.

The parts came out good, they will require a little sanding to get the tabs to fit, but that’s normal for designs that are usually laser cut.

I’ll take pictures of the parts and post them tomorrow.

Oh, and right now if anyone is interested I’m printing a ‘challenge’ puzzle part, it’s a tricky part to print and its my third attempt but it seems like it might be coming out ok

Sorry it’s taken me so long to take the pictures, I’ve been on call this week. But here they are

Should be getting my new servos this week, and I got my SSC-32 so I should be up and running sometime this week.

Which timezone are you in ncbob? I’ve been checking but never managed to snag seeing your printer in action. The 3d prints you’ve done look great  It’ll be cool to see a home printed hexy walking around!

I’m in the eastern time zone. The past week I’ve not printed a whole lot because of being on call. Starting Tuesday I should be printing fairly regularly again.

But having said that I’m doing some work on my Jeep and I have to print some mounting brackets for my seat heater switches. I’ve just finished the design and I’m getting ready to print a sample out for fit, then I’ll be printing a second one for the passenger seat. It should start printing within the next 10 minutes or so.

Yay! I caught it in action! I’m GMT+10 which is Australian Eastern Standard Time. When you say eastern time I assume you mean Eastern US as in GMT-5?

Yup, that’s correct

If that one fits ill be printing another one right after that

So did it fit? I saw it print out but had to leave after you removed it from the table.

Yup, second one is printed.
