USB connection not recognized

I’ve tried a Windows 7 machine and two Linux machines (Ubuntu 12.04 and Ubuntu 13.10), and none of them will recognize the USB connection to Sparki. On Windows - it gives an error “USB Device not recognized” and “One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned”. On Linux, the dmesg output shows errors like “device descriptor read/64, error -32” and “device not accepting address 5, error -32”.

The Sparki works fine with the remote control.

I wonder if the bootloader needs to be reloaded? Can that be done through the expansion connector?

Do you see the bootloader COM when you release the reset button? It’s only open for a short while and is closed when the bootloader finishes, but if that is still there I guess the bootloader itself is ok and you should be able to upload new code with a working virtual COM connection.

The manual upload process does not work.
I’m pretty sure the bootloader USB connection is not working, either. When I plug Sparki into Windows (or press reset), two “USB device not recognized” messages pop up. On Linux, the dmesg output shows no successful USB connections.

Any ideas on the next debugging step?

Try running the installer with Sparki plugged in. That’s the more sure-fire way to get the driver installed in windows. I’m updated the guide as such.

We’re going to post a ‘manual’ driver install guide as well, as a last-ditch effort.
