i have finished building hexy a month ago and uo to now i still could not get it to do any thing coz there are no instructions easy enough for an man with not too much knowledge on how to program it. why cant somebody make a step by step instructions what to do after hexy is built. all they say was download servotor.zip and then what?download arduino and then what? it says in the box not too much experience needed. you see people are not as sharp as you are. if i only knew that this is complicated i would have never spent $275 on this bullshit. i got nothing to show for my money except for this weird looking spider in front of me. give some detailed instructions where to download what do i press what file is needed etc.
welcome to my similar headache… I was expecting an intro to programming manual or something to come in the box
Hi all,
Programming isn’t necessarily required to enjoy Hexy. I just edited the instructions to make that a bit more clear. Arduino programming is only required if you want to update the firmware (all firmwares in shipped Hexys should already be the latest version).
The next step after running the servotor32 driver installer would be to install and run PoMoCo. PoMoCo will allow you to have Hexy do moves.
Hello,
that’s not so easy. When you have a problem, you need to surf a lot to get a solution to a particular that not runs for you and start again.
I think you must includ a solving problems guide, or FAQs, or dummys guide…
Thanks,
Eskarne
I think I would like to add to this too, whether it was through poor research on my behalf, but I was under the impression that this was designed to be for people with ZERO robotics experience. I’m not a programmer but I can code basic websites, thats the extent of my programming skills.
I thought after construction there would be an introduction into how hexy works, how to make him do things. PoCoMo is good to play with for about 5 mins then you have nothing left to do with him.
I have been looking at how Michal has done his mods and it is impressive but even with his instructions I find it hard to follow cause I don’t know what all this stuff is and having to install so many python add-ons or whatever they’re called just adds to the severe complexity of Hexy.
As nice as it would be I don’t expect you guys to create a programming guide but it would be good if you could outline how to get started.
Eg: How to program with python/arduino (link relevant URLS, etc)
More detailed description on how hexy works would be good or even reference material for us to look at.
I never expected this to be easy, its robotics! But I thought Hexy would be a good introduction to robotics but I ended up buying an Arduino Uno 3 starter kid because maybe Hexy is just too intense for a beginner with ZERO knowledge in robotics.
It took me ages to figure out the battery stuff, I read the page on powering hexy but its still hard to follow, I ended up buying the 5v 10a power brick to power him cause batteries don’t seem to make him work properly.
Putting him together was the fun part, the how to program him is just more intense than I thought. You need to commit some serious time to learning programming to do anything useful with him.
I’ve got to agree with this completely. The build was without issue, but even finding PoMoCo was a struggle. I managed to figure out the offset thing and saved them but now when I fire him up (always connected via USB) there’s lots of shaking and very little movement that I would expect from the left side buttons (dance, get up, lean back, etc)
Is there not a pdf or txt file somewhere that lists the commands needed to make Hexy move? Or, do we have to disasemble the files in the moves
folder to even get a clue how to write a new move?
